The holidays are always a good time to reflect and be grateful for all the amazing things in my life. I think that too often, it’s easy to get wrapped up in trivial worries and we forget just how truly lucky and blessed we are to have the simple things in life.
Around the holidays, I like to remember to give back to those in need and those that may be having hardships. I’d really like to make an effort to teach our children the importance of helping others and being charitable to organizations that we love and support.
This year, I’ve chosen to support Blessings in a Backpack and I’d love your help!
Many of you may not have ever heard of Blessings in a Backpack. Blessings in a Backpack is an organization that provides food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. Did you know that over 16 million children in the United States live in food insecure homes? Many of the children that benefit from this program are eligible for free school meals, but then go without food over the weekends while at home. I can’t imagine how stressful it must be for a child to not know whether they will have food over the weekend to eat. Aside from a growling stomach, lack of proper nutrition can lead to poor immune health, increased hospitalizations, learning difficulties and academic success.
Just $100 feeds one child on the weekends for one 38-week school year through the Blessings in a Backpack program!
