I absolutely love the convenience of those baby food squeeze pouches, but I hate the premium price you pay for them. I recently came across these reusable pouches that you could fill with your own homemade food and couldn’t resist giving them a try. I’m so glad that I did. They’re seriously great and perfect for feeding purees to my baby that insists on feeding herself (so spoon feeding is a complete battle). Not only does she love that she is able to feed herself, but they are perfect for our toddler too when we’re on the go and don’t want to deal with a mess. If you’re thinking about using them at all…go for it!

Making your own baby food is so much easier than you think and can save you so much money compared to what you would pay for pre-made. One of the aspects that I love the most about making my own baby food is that I know exactly what’s in it and I can tailor the food to my child’s needs. By making my own child’s baby food, I can rest assured that my kiddos are getting the highest quality and healthiest ingredients.

To get started with making your own baby food, you only need a few items:

  • Blender/Food Processor (I love the Oster Pro 1200 Plus)
  • Pan for heating/cooking
  • Something to store and freeze them in

Below is one of our favorite fruit pouches and it’s so easy to make!

I recently was given the Oster Pro 1200 Plus Blender and Food Processor for reviewing and it’s been great so far. It has 7 speeds and 3 pre-programmed settings for the most common creations (smoothie, chop & milkshake). The dual direction blade technology provides optimal blending for faster and smoother power, that allows your to blend, chop and grind with precision. I love that it blends so well, especially when it comes to baby food. When Brielle started with foods she was super picky about texture so having the ability to a very smooth and blended consistency is super important when it comes to baby food (plus, it ensures that it will easily work with baby food pouches). The food processor was great for quick food chop prep for recipes like salsa or pestos too.

One of the things that I like the best about this blender, besides the high power, is that the jar is an extra large 8-cup BPA-free TRITANâ„¢ Jar that’s dishwasher safe and impact and temperature resistant. No worries about it shattering when exposed to hot or cool foods which is great for smoothies and soups. Plus the wide base makes it so much easier to clean than more narrow blenders. I love all the different settings that allow for easy blending without me having to constantly start and stop it for consistent blending. The pulsing in the different settings allows for the air bubble that typical builds to not become an issue. The food processor bowl is made out of a plastic (are there any that are not?), but I’m thankful to see that it is BPA free so no worries on that front.

Right now there is a great deal going on at Target for $10 off an Oster blender purchase of $39 and more. You print the coupon easily here. Oster will also be adding some great promotions through the holiday season on the Target Cartwheel app as well (I loooooove Cartwheel and use it religiously to save some extra money when shopping at Target).

Also, you can easily turn the baby food puree recipe into a smoothie with the addition of some greek yogurt! It taste great and adds a ton of protein into your little ones diet. My toddler loves them and I love using the Silikids lids to ensure a mess free drink.
