I am participating in an Ambassador program on behalf of Influence Central and hosted by the makers of Bayer®Aspirin. I have received compensation to thank me for my participation. All opinions expressed are my own.

In the past year, I’ve had a few friends and family members that have experienced devastating losses; Grandparents, parents, siblings and/or spouses that have experienced traumatic health setbacks or death due to heart attacks. Some were older, a surprising amount were younger (early 30’s), and to say it rocked me to the core, is an understatement. When I thought of heart attacks before, I always imagined it being an older generation, however after seeing a friend lose her 30-something year old husband to a heart attack, I’ve realized the importance of being aware of monitoring your health and being prepared in the case of a suspected heart attack.

Did you know that there’s a heart attack in the U.S. every 42 seconds?  Scary, right?!
One of the most important things that you can do to be prepared for suspected heart attacks is so incredibly easy to do. Calling 911 and chewing aspirin during a suspected heart attack could help save someone’s life.

While this is such an easy thing to do, the problem lies in that aspirin isn’t always around. Bayer has recently began a new campaign, The Hero Smiths , to address the issue of heart attacks in the U.S., to educate on the life saving benefits of Bayer Aspirin and to help ensure that it is easily available in the case of suspected heart attacks. The Hero Smiths Theory is based on turning every person with the last name Smith into everyday heroes. The last name Smith is so incredibly common that there is nearly always a Smith around. If each person with the last name Smith carried Bayer Aspirin with them, more people could be helped during a suspected heart attack.. Simple and genius, right? Just because you’re not a Smith doesn’t mean you can’t be an everyday hero…the more people involved, the more prepared we all are.
The video below explains it in more detail.

Pretty neat, right? So how does aspirin help during a heart attack? Aspirin works to keep from blood from clotting. During a heart attack this is incredibly important to prevent further blockages and increase chances of survival.

I’ve taken the pledge to always carry Bayer Aspirin with me and I ask that you all join me by signing the pledge here. You can also print a coupon for $2 off a bottle of Bayer Aspirin. You never know when you could save a life (yours, a loved one, or a strangers) and I don’t want to ever be in the situation in which I always wonder “what if?”.

Let’s make saving lives common.

Join me and many others in joining the Hero Smiths campaign. Take the pledge, share the video, take the quiz and educate yourself on all the signs and symptoms of a heart attack.

Disclaimer: In the event of a suspected heart attack, immediately call 9-1-1 and chew or crush and swallow aspirin as directed by a doctor.
