Very Berry Chocolate Cake Twinkie Trifle

I’m throwing it back old school today with this fun and yummy post! It’s been a super long time since I have had a Twinkie, but when I saw the new twist on Twinkies from Hostess, I had to give them a try. Twinkies give me a flashback to my middle school years and spending summer afternoons hanging out with my BFF’s, riding bikes to each others houses and having nothing better to do than hang by the pool all day. While Twinkies by themselves are awesome, I’m pretty partial to my twist on Twinkies that I’ll be sharing below.

I’m definitely loving these new Twinkies that have a chocolate twist. Yes, chocolate! Give me chocolate anything and I’m pretty darn happy. Chocolate cake or fudge and Twinkie creme goodness had my mouth watering. I picked up both varieties (chocolate cake and fudge covered) and immediately knew that I was going to twist this variation even further.

Introducing…Very Berry Chocolate Cake Twinkie Trifle!

Very Berry Chocolate Cake Twinkie Trifle

Very Berry Chocolate Cake Twinkie Trifle

This decadent dessert is a twist on a trifle that not only taste amazing, but using Twinkies takes the extra step out of making your own cake or brownies. Plus, the addition of Twinkie creme, chocolate cake goodness and a mix of seasonal berries adds a little extra sweet goodness. I absolutely love having cold foods and desserts in the summertime to beat the heat and this dessert does it. The best part…it serves a ton of people (10!) and takes less than 30 minutes to throw together. Prepare to wow your guests at your next party or BBQ with this simple trifle.

Total Time 25 minutes
Course Dessert
Servings 10 people

Ingredients

  • 1 4 serving size package instant chocolate pudding
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 16 ounces Cool Whip thawed
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 1 8 or 10 pack Twinkies chocolate cake or fudge covered
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 1 pint strawberries sliced

Instructions

  • Begin with the chocolate layer: whisk together pudding mix, cold water and sweetened condensed milk. Refrigerate once done. Use an electric mixer to whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Fold whipped heavy cream into pudding mixture until well mixed and refrigerate until later step.
  • Prepare cream cheese layer: Use an electric mixer to whip cream cheese until it is light and fluffy. Add thawed Cool Whip and whip until light and fluffy.
  • Layer the ingredients in your trifle dish (or dishes if you are making individual serving size trifles). I began with a layer of the pudding, Twinkies (simply break them apart into 1 inch pieces), strawberries/blueberries, cream cheese/cool whip mixture and repeat until you run out of ingredients.

Oh my gosh, this looks so delicious! I love making trifles because I feel like they’re relatively easy to put together, but they’re still a special dessert.
