Explore the Reasons to Go RVing on Your Next Family Vacation

A few weeks ago we had the awesome experience of RV camping thanks to the awesome teams at General RV (Mt. Clemens location) and GoRVing! As a child, I spent several summers camping throughout the summer with friends and we always had so much fun so I couldn’t wait to let my children share and make similar memories. It had been years since I had been RV camping and oh my —  RV’s have changed so much! I was surprised at how many amenities and how nice the RV’s are now! This RV getaway has totally inspired me to take our travels on the road so much more in the future. While RV travel and lodging may not have been your first thought when it comes to family vacations, there are so many great reasons to stay in an RV on your next trip!

Our weekend getaway was at KOA campground in Port Huron which was a quick one hour drive from the Flint area. The campground has everything that you could ever want and is such a great option for families with all the amenities and activities that are available to choose from. It’s only a few minutes away from Lake Huron which has a great little downtown area! Make sure to check out the Lady Huron II for a boat ride and tour of the area (great way to learn history and see the Blue Water Bridge up close)!

Whether you want to relax in the pool, be active, enjoy nature, or have fun arts & craft activities for children, there are so many things to do and see to keep everyone busy and happy. We even had a mini train at our KOA that the kids could enjoy!

The kids played on the playgrounds, swam, rode their bikes, jumped on the giant pillow, played sports and met new campground friends until they could barely keep their eyes open at night.

Many campground have an awesome assortment of lots to choose from (some with gas grills and gazebos) if you’re bringing your own or renting an RV. They also have cabins available (some that include linens and everything you need for a functioning kitchen) to make a family getaway simple and stress-free. We stayed in a Kodiak Ultimate RV and wow – I was blown away by the interior and features! Easy set up, sleek design, stainless steel appliances, bunk beds for the kids and a separate sleeping space for adults, tons of exterior and interior storage, bluetooth throughout, and so much more.

In the past, we had almost always rented homes and cabins while traveling. However, taking a chance at RV travel has totally given me with a change of heart when traveling. RV travel has so many awesome benefits when it comes to traveling and road trips, especially for families.

10 awesome benefits and reasons to go RVing on your next family vacation or road trip:

Less Unpacking

One of the worst things about travel is the packing and unpacking, especially if you’re road tripping. With RV travel, unpacking isn’t an issue throughout your trip. You can have designated spaces for your things without having to sift and search through a suitcase.

Plenty of Space for Favorites & Extras

Kids have a lot of STUFF! With an RV or winnebago, there is so much space to bring all the extra’s and favorite items. You can bring along your favorite linens and pillows, toys, bikes, beach gear, electronics, etc. without having to worry about space being an issue. The little things (like your favorite pillow and kids stuffed animals) can be the things that bring so much comfort and joy that can really enhance your travel.

Designated Spaces for Kids & Parents

When traveling it can be hard to get a little bit of your own space, but many RV’s have separate living and sleeping spaces. I loved that we had our own bedroom area that was away from everyone else. The kids had their own bunk bed (that had a curtain that pulled over for privacy) that allowed each person to have a little personal “me time” to unwind and recharge. Another bonus: everyone can keep their own personal items in their own spaces instead of sprawled throughout a hotel room.

Better Food Choices

RV travel allows you to bring all your favorite snacks, coffee and food with you! Eating in hotels and restaurants can become expensive and tiresome, especially for families and picky appetites. With ample storage space and a functional kitchen, you can prepare your favorite meals to save money and eat healthier.

Less Road Side Bathroom Breaks & Messes

One of the best things about traveling via RV and winnebago with families is that you literally have a bathroom available at all times! You can avoid nasty gas station bathrooms with an on-board bathroom. Sticky hands from road trip snacks? No big deal…just go wash up!

Freedom to Change Travel Plans

When you book a hotel, you’re unable to change plans and times without a fee most of the time. With RV travel you can change your travel plans on the fly. If you’re traveling and see new destinations along the way, you can make spur-of-the-moment route changes.

Home Away From Home

A RV allows you to bring along all your favorite items that make your home a home. You can even bring along your pets to share your adventures with your favorite furry friend!

No Car Rental

Avoid rental car costs and confusion as you always have your own car with you! This is especially great if you have kids on car seats so you don’t have to lug heavy and bulky car seats into a new rental car.

Money Savings

On average, an RV vacation can cost a family of four up to 59% less than other forms of travel. With RV travel, you combine transportation, lodging and food costs into one.

Different Types of Campgrounds & Experiences

What kind of campground do you want? Each campground has their own vibe and feel. Some are busy with kids and activities all day long, while some are more rustic and serene with nature being the only sounds around. It’s important to take note that each campground will offer a different experience and atmosphere.

We might have to try this out one day. We’ll have to see how we do. We all appreciate our personal space, so we might get crabby being so close.
