Quarantine life have you going a wee bit stir crazy yet? I know that I’m oh-so-grateful and ecstatic that we are starting to get some more spring like weather here! We’ve burned through a lot of our indoor activity ideas, so being able to get outside to play everyday has opened up a whole new list of fun outdoor activities. Children are wired to learn through play and exploration and the Great Outdoors offers so many lessons and experiences. Discovering the natural world should be a part of every childhood and creates a wonderful appreciate and lifelong love for nature.
Getting outside is an instant mood lifter for everyone in the family and helps my kiddos to burn off some energy! With signs of spring bursting everywhere, we’ve been loving our nature walks! One of our favorite books, Forest Club, has a ton of great nature inspired ideas (a complete year of activities and crafts to explore nature in every season) and I loved the idea of a signs of spring scavenger hunt. It’s so important that inspire and encourage children to connect with the outdoors and this is such a fun and simple activity to do so!
I’ve created a simple printable that is a perfect reason for your kids to get out and explore nature from the safety of home and their neighborhood. As they find items they can scratch them off (for repeated use, you can easily laminate these printables and use a dry erase marker). Whether you aim to have the whole board crossed off or to simple make a line of 4, it’s a simple activity that even your youngest explorers can participate in.
A few options:
- Have children compete with each other to see who can find all the items first or make a line of 4 across!
- Take photos of each item that you find!
