Do you feel like every time you go on Facebook, you’re bombarded with meal-kit subscription ads? Okay, you know I love food, so maybe it’s just me! I’ve always been intrigued by the meal kits because they seem such a great option for trying out new cuisines without spending too much money on take-out and that they’d simplify that whole “what’s for dinner?” battle I have all the time.
Everyone I know seems to make meal kits part of their weekly routine and the kit that everyone seems to constantly love is HelloFresh. I’ve used HelloFresh numerous times and I’ve been so impressed every single time! They’re “America’s number one meal kit,” and they’ve never disappointed. I wanted to share my experience with HelloFresh and let you guys in on how much it simplifies our weekdays and takes away the mealtime stress!
So what exactly is a meal kit subscription? It’s a weekly delivery of pre-packaged, perfectly proportioned food right to your door, along with detailed instructions about how to turn the ingredients into a meal! They require anywhere from 20-45 minutes to cook and you can peruse your food options beforehand.
When I went to HelloFresh’s website, I decided I was going to sign up for the family plan for me, the hubby, and my kids. The family plan’s meal options range from meats and vegetarian dishes to some special gourmet night options (ooh la la). For my first meal, I selected a Hall-of-Fame recipe, meaning it was one of the fan favorites: Pork Bulgogi Meatballs with Carrots and Zucchini over Rice. We are huge Korean food fans so I couldn’t wait to try this one! The vegetables along with the ginger and kick in the spice has the added bonus of being great for boosting immunity during winter blues. My kids adore sweet and sour sauce, so the recipe looked like an upgrade from their favorite chicken nugget dip!
My box arrived on the designated Wednesday (you can pick which day to have it delivered) and I did a little happy dance seeing it on my doorstep!
My kids are always super excited to open up the box and see what’s on the menu for the week, plus they love helping me cook. The meat and vegetables were on ice, and everything was packaged with easy-to-read labels and instructions. My kids helped me take everything out of the box and lay it all out before we started cooking. I did all the vegetable-chopping quickly (the only prep needed), and then re-rolled the meatballs, because my kids kept them making them fist-sized. Once we rolled the perfect-sized meatballs, everything came together so quickly.
My husband came home when the meat was sizzling in the pan and the entire house apparently smelled like a Korean restaurant. With some sesame seeds on top, the final product looked picture-perfect! The best part was that it only took 29 minutes (I timed it to see if it was worth the hype) from start to finish. That’s really important to me as a busy mom as some evenings we are really pressed for time!
All four of us loved it! It had such great flavor, and according to HelloFresh’s website, was less than 400 calories per serving. I make meatballs with seared veggies all the time, but this was such a great way to open them up to new global flavors. My son even said, “they’re better than yours mom”. LOL!
I absolutely loved my experience with HelloFresh – it’s just as easy and hassle-free as everyone says it is, and in the end, I got to have a yummy homemade meal! Everything’s really well-balanced and packed with nutrients, too, so I don’t have to be too picky about the different menu options. There are so many different meal options for all different diets (some are lower calorie, lower fat, vegetarian, etc.) which makes it easy to maintain eating a healthy diet. We’ve got gourmet tacos coming up next week and I’m so excited to try them.
If you’ve ever thought about doing a meal-kit subscription, HelloFresh is the way to go! It’s an easy way to make fun meals for you and your family for an affordable price.
