Crossroads Village is a hidden gem in Genesee County and one of their most exciting events is in town for the next few weekends. Crossroads is known for it’s blast from the past atmosphere and historical buildings and of course, the amazing train rides on the Huckleberry Railroad Line. They also host several different events throughout the year and we were so excited to see the classic storybook engine,  Thomas the Tank Engine was in town. Day Out with Thomas will be making a stop at Crossroads the weekends of August 19-21 and August 26-28 in Flint, Michigan.

Day Out With Thomas is a fun family event that has something for everyone to enjoy, especially those with young children. When you purchase your tickets for Day Out With Thomas, you receive so much more than just a train ride with a Thomas. There are countless events and attractions within the park to keep your little ones happy and to make great memories. Included are Storytelling and Video Viewing, Temporary Tattoos of Island of Sodor friends, and an Imagination Station with Arts & Crafts and more. There are many chances to meet and greet with a few favorite characters, such as Sir Topham Hatt, the infamous controller of the railway too.

The grounds are very stroller friendly, there are plenty of places for a picnic lunch or places to purchase food and snacks on the grounds as well. I love that there were bathrooms available close by no matter where you are (and they had ample baby changing stations) and even area for moms to nurse if they wanted privacy.

Train Ride

The train ride lasts about 40 minutes and takes you throughout different areas of Genesee County. There are fabulous views of Mott Lake and historical tidbits throughout the ride. Be sure to listen to the conductors cues as he tells you of the sites to see and even lets you know when you can see Thomas leading the train. Also, the train loads from back to front so be sure to take that into consideration when loading the train for your ride. The train ride is definitely one of my kids favorite events of the day. They love hearing the toot of the horn especially.

Farm Animals

Go say hi to the cows, goats, llamas, and chickens.

Imagination Station

There were stations set up with bubbles, arts and crafts (make their own hats or coloring areas) and sensory tables as well with blocks and sand play. It was a great area to have a little downtime in the shade and to take a break.

Inflatables

There were several inflatables available for the kids to bounce away some energy. I loved that their were only small kids in the inflatables so there wasn’t the worry that a larger kid could injure any of the little ones.

Straw Maze

My son could have spent all day in this large maze. The kids all seemed to love running around and trying to find their way to the end.

Magic Show and Storytelling

There are shows staggered throughout the day to make it easy to catch a show no matter when you are there. We were unable to make the magic show held in the Cowell Opera House because our son was getting tired, but other attendees said that they loved the family friendly event.

Meet & Greet with Sir Topham Hatt and Bob The Builder

Children love seeing their favorite characters come to life!

 Vintage Amusement Rides

This is probably one of my favorite areas at Crossroads. Tucked away in the back corner is a plethora of vintage amusement rides. The carousel is absolutely beautiful. There is also a ferris wheel, venetian boats, vintage pony carts, and the Mott Lake Flyer (my son’s favorite).
