With 2017 coming to a close, New Year’s resolutions and goals are on the minds of many people. I know that I always enjoy taking the new year as a chance to reflect on the year that has passed and set new goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. For many of us, those goals tend to be in the health realm, whether it is working to lose weight, exercise more or to simply lead a healthier and more mindful lifestyle.

When working on goals to improve your health, I believe that looking at all different areas of health (physical, mental, nutrition, stress management, relationships, and so many more) come into play. Initiating a wellness routine and mindset that is beneficial to the whole body, mind and soul is one of the more wholesome ways to increasing your overall quality of life, happiness and success.

Whether your New Year’s resolutions are rooted in one of the seven dimensions of wellness (physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental or occupational) the following 8 wellness tips will definitely set you in the right direction to obtain and crush your resolutions and goals:

8 Wellness Tips to Rock Your Goals

1. Get Some More Zzz’s

Sleep is so important and the foundation to letting your body reboot! Start small by heading to bed even 10-15 minutes earlier and put your phone far away so you aren’t lured into social media time spiral which takes away from quality sleep time.

2. Be Active Daily

Aim for at least 30 minutes of movement a day, even if that means you split it up into two 15 minute walks. Park at the back of the parking lot, do some morning yoga and sun salutations, bike to work, use the stairs, join a friend for a fitness class, or walk the dog. Finding something that you enjoy doing will make staying active so much easier and more enjoyable.

3. Don’t Skip Meals

Common sense, right? While it is, this is one of those things that people have a hard time with. Life’s busy and sometimes we don’t make finding the time to sit down and eat our meals a priority. Skipping meals could lead to over-indulgence when we finally do eat. If you can’t take the time for a full meal, at the very least keep nutritious and smart snacks handy to lessen the chance of noshing on less than healthy options like fast food. I stock my purse, gym bag and car with easy to grab and go snacks like ZonePerfect nutrition bars. With 13 different flavors (chocolate mint is my favorite) to choose from there is something for everyone. With the ZonePerfect great taste guarantee, your satisfaction is number one! I love that they are a powerful source of protein (10-15 grams depending on flavor) which is great for tiding you over between meals and keeping you full for longer periods. Available at most major retailers (store locator).

4. Keep Nutritious Foods Handy

Stock the pantry and fridge with nutritious foods that are ready to go! Most of us are busy and stressed for time, so having snacks that you can easily grab quickly is an absolute must. If possible, take a bit of time one day a week to pre-pack and portion snacks in serving sizes or to cut up fruits and veggies. Nix sugary drinks and instead hydrate with lots of water (adding some fruit and herbs can add a little life to water if you need some incentive). Aim for lots of fiber filled veggies/fruit, high protein and vitamin rich options (like ZonePerfect nutrition bars that have up to 19 vitamins and minerals in each bar). Take notice and use nutritious snacks to bridge nutritional gaps in your diet as well and don’t forget to stay hydrated.

5. Be Grateful

If you’re reading this, chances are that you have something to be grateful for. Once a week, take stock of all the amazing things in your life that you are grateful and write them down. Whether big or small, a gratitude journal forces you to think about all the great things in your life that you may otherwise take for granted.

6. Clean Beauty & Home

Take a look at your health and beauty products, as well as the cleaning products you use daily. Slowly try substituting products with more green and non-toxic options. Your body is your temple. Treat it that way!

7. Take Some Time For Yourself

Motherhood often means that your mind is going in ten different places and you’re worrying about helping everyone else. Fill your own cup of joy with activities you enjoy or just take a moment for yourself. You can’t continue to fill everyone else’s cup if your cup is empty. As a caretaker, you need to ensure your own health is a priority as well as those that you are caring for.

8. Set Goals & Make a Plan

Take time to prioritize which goals are most important to you and make a plan to achieve them. A little planning can go a long way when it comes to setting yourself up for succeeding and blowing your goals out of the water.
