Cinnamon Pumpkin Spice Whipped Butter

I love the holidays and one of my favorite things about this time of year is the food and family traditions that we enjoy year after year. I’ve always loved baking and getting creative in the kitchen, but having children and my own family has really transformed it into something that I look forward too. Once the leaves start falling and temperatures plummet, I can’t help but to start thinking about baking and all my favorite holidays dishes. It’s not unlikely to find me slowly strolling the aisles at Meijer and stocking up on all my favorite spices and baking essentials (McCormick® is always one of my go to brands for spices) early in the season to be fully stocked and ready to go on a baking spree.

This Santa bread has been a family favorite for several years now. My kids absolutely go crazy when I make it and it always receives so many compliments (and “ooo’s and ahh’s”) when I bring it to holiday celebrations. It looks super complex, but I promise that even a novice cook or baker can do it relatively easily.

Santa Bread Recipe Tutorial

While the original recipe has a recipe to make your own dough (which does taste amazing), I usually just buy refrigerated french bread dough to save myself time and hassle. With a few simple ingredients and McCormick® Red Food Color, you’ll have a jolly and delicious Santa on the table in less than an hour. Kids love being involved in making the Santa bread, especially playing with squishy dough and “painting” Santa, so it’s a great holiday tradition to start with your kiddos.

I’ve included a step by step recipe with lots of pictures to help you create fun memories with your own Santa Bread! Don’t forget to scroll down to grab the recipe with whipped cinnamon and pumpkin spice butter too!

Santa Bread

This Santa bread has quickly become a family favorite and is so fun to bring to holiday events. You can make your own dough or use french bread dough when pressed for time. Super cute, kids and adults both love it and surprisingly easy to make!
Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 55 minutes
Servings 8 people

Ingredients

  • 2 cans refrigerated french bread dough
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 raisins
  • 3 to 5 drops McCormick® Red Food Color

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350˚. Flour your working surface.
  • Remove dough from cans and add a small amount (1/4 of dough) from one dough and add to the other. You will want two portions of bread (one will be slightly larger than the other).
  • Shape the larger dough into a tall and skinny triangle with rounded corners (for Santa's face and hat). Transfer to greased pan.
  • Divide the smaller ball of dough into half. Shape and flatter one piece into a half circle (for Santa's beard). Use pizza cutter or knife to cut into strips within 1 inch of the top of dough.
  • Carefully add to bottom of Santa's face. Twist strips to form Santa's beard.
  • Use remaining dough to form Santa's nose, brim (rectangular shape) & pom for his hat, and mustache (cut into strips similar to his beard). Fold over hat and add pom. Cut slits for eyes and add raisins.
  • Add one egg yolk to two separate bowls. Add 3-5 drops of McCormick® Red Food Color to one bowl and beat well. Paint Santa's hat and nose red. Add red on his cheeks. Brush clear plain egg yolk over the rest of the dough.
  • Cover loosely with foil and bake for 12 minutes (you may want to tent foil so it doesn't rest on the dough). Remove foil and bake for another 10-13 minutes until golden brown. Cool on wire rack.

Notes

Recipe adapted and originated from Taste of Home.

While this bread is great served by itself with salad or a pasta dish, it really shines when paired with sweet and decadent whipped cinnamon and pumpkin spice butter!

Whipped cinnamon and pumpkin spice butter is absolutely delicious, can be made in 5 minutes and addictively good. It encompasses fall and winter flavors, cinnamon and pumpkin spice, and great slathered on Santa bread, toast, pancakes and waffles (or even a little dollop for fall inspired bulletproof coffee). The star ingredients in this butter are high quality McCormick® spices as they lend a deep and rich flavor. Many spices can have lots of fillers which can effect the taste, but McCormick® Cinnamon is pure aged cinnamon for the most robust and bold flavor. McCormick® Pumpkin Pie Spice is superior to other brands in flavor with a perfect blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice (I use it in my Pecan Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Bowl too).
