Let’s face it, as moms, our days can feel like a whirlwind of chaos. Between work, kids, and household chores, finding time for ourselves can seem like a luxury. But it’s important to remember that taking care of ourselves is not selfish – it’s essential. And one of the best ways to do that is through regular exercise.

I know firsthand how difficult it can be to stay consistent with a workout routine. There are always a million excuses: the kids are sick, there’s a mountain of laundry, or you’re just plain exhausted. But I’ve learned that the key to staying motivated is to find a workout routine that works for you and your lifestyle.

Here are a few tips that have helped me stay consistent with exercise:

1. Make it a priority: Schedule your workouts just like you would any other important appointment. Put it on your calendar and stick to it. Find pockets in your day when exercise is most ideal and make it a priority.
2. Find a workout buddy: Having a workout partner can make it more fun and help you both stay accountable. It’s much harder to avoid the gym when someone else is relying on you too!
3. Make it enjoyable: Choose activities that you actually enjoy. Whether it’s dancing, swimming, or hiking, find something that makes you happy so you can look forward to doing it, instead of forcing yourself to go.
4. Start small: Don’t try to do too much too soon. Start with short workouts and gradually increase the intensity and duration.
5. Don’t beat yourself up: Everyone has setbacks. If you miss a workout, don’t let it discourage you. Just pick up where you left off.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Find a workout space: Create a designated workout area in your home, even if it’s just a corner of the living room. This will help you feel more motivated and focused.
  • Incorporate exercise into your daily routine: Take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for a walk during your lunch break, go for a family bike ride after dinner, or do some stretches while watching TV.
  • Set realistic goals: Don’t try to lose 20 pounds in a month. Set small, achievable goals that will keep you motivated and on track.
  • Reward yourself: Treat yourself to something special when you reach your fitness goals. This will help you stay motivated and excited about your progress. Fun new workout clothes always motivate me, so treat yourself to a new hoodie or running shoes when you hit those goals!
  • Remember why you’re doing this: Don’t forget the benefits of regular exercise. It can help you feel better physically and mentally, boost your energy levels, and improve your overall quality of life.

Remember, consistency is key when it comes to exercise. Even small amounts of physical activity can make a big difference in your overall health and well-being. So, let’s make a commitment to ourselves to prioritize our health and fitness. You deserve it, mama!
