Fire up the grill and get ready to enjoy these flavorful teriyaki turkey burgers! Delicious and so easy to make which make them perfect for a weeknight dinner or a backyard BBQ!

Grilling season is in full swing and today I’m sharing one of my all-time favorite turkey burgers recipes! It’s hard to believe that the 4th of July is just around the corner. It feels like our kids just got out of school and we’re already reaching the halfway point of summer. There’s no better way to celebrate summertime than a big, juicy burger while relaxing in the backyard. One of the best things about these burgers is that everyone loves them – even my super picky kids! They gobble them up every single time and it’s a great way to switch it up from the tradition beef cheeseburger.

Since we’re in the midst of a home remodel and have been without a kitchen the last month and a half, our grill has been working overtime! I’ve always been a big griller, but I have a whole new appreciation for the ease of use and versatility of grilling this summer. We’ve exploring a lot of different burger combinations and these teriyaki turkey burgers with pineapple slaw are oh-so-good!

Teriyaki turkey burgers are the perfect combination of sweet and salty! The addition of teriyaki to the burgers creates a nice flavor of caramelization and gives turkey burgers a boost of flavor and moisture that they often need. I love using ground turkey for this recipe as a it’s a great lower fat option, but you can feel free to use beef if you prefer.

Tips For Teriyaki Turkey Burgers

When choosing a teriyaki sauce, make sure that you are using a sauce NOT a marinade. You can make your own, but most of the time I just use a store-bought version because I like quick and no-fuss meals for the weekday. If you’re feeling a bit extra, add a few thick red onion slices to the grill when cooking as they are a wonderful addition to these burgers. Grilling the onions takes out the bitter potent taste and creates a depth of sweet and smoky flavor.

When forming the patties, evenly divide the meat into 4-5 patties that are about 1/2 inch thick. Add a small indentation with your fingers to the center of the patties to help them cook evenly and avoid a dome shape during cooking.

Don’t skip out on the pineapple slaw! Pineapple slaw pairs perfectly with the burgers and really complements the teriyaki flavor while adding a super satisfying crunch factor. When I make this slaw I try to use fresh pineapple if possible, but you can also used drained pineapple tidbits in a pinch (note: the slaw will be a bit more moist and not last as long if you use tidbits). The slaw last for 2-3 days in the fridge (best within 24 hours for maximum crunch) and goes super well with fish tacos too!

These burgers can be cooked on the grill or pan-fried. If you have a grill to use, use it as grilled burgers always have more flavor. In the cooler months, we’ve pan-fried these with plenty of success too (I love using cast-iron pans for burgers – here’s my favorite one). Make sure to add the buns to the top shelf of your grill the last few minutes of grilling to perfectly toast them.
