Ahh, only 3 more weeks until Tough Mudder day! I’m both excited and nervous. I’m feeling pretty strong, but really wishing that I had been running more. The good news? While the course is 10-12 miles total, the running portions are in smaller increments. The next couple weeks I’m going to try to up my running some to prepare and get in a better space mentally. The truth is, I don’t mind running long distances and actually like long distances, but I find it so hard to be able to train for longer runs because I just am unable to find the time to dedicate to longer runs while still being able to do yoga and weights.  Overall, training is going pretty good while still balancing being a mom of two young kiddos, blogging a ton, wife life and just keeping up with life in general.

Since the race is only a few weeks away, I figured I’d share a few of my must-have training products, what I plan to use on race day and what I’ll have ready for post-race recovery!

Wear

Pink Merrell All Out Crush Shoe

These shoes are thebomb.com! I’ve been a Merrell fan for years and these shoes definitely are on my list of favorite trail running shoes. The tread on them is amazing for cruising through loose dirt, rocks, mud and grass. They have a bit more of a drop (6mm) than what I’m used too since I’ve been wearing minimal running shoes most of the time, but I’ve had absolutely no foot pain whatsoever and they have been incredibly comfortable and have a great secure fit. The reflective details are perfect for early morning or late night runs for added visibility. I love that they are easy to wash too…throw them in the washer and let air dry. These are definitely going to be the shoes that I use for running Tough Mudder as they have the best traction I’ve ever had in a shoe.

Merrell Compression T-Shirt

I’m loving the sleek and feminine fit of this shirt so much! The wicking material (100% polyester scale mesh) is a must when sweaty and wet as it moves it away from your skin and dries quickly to prevent chafing. So many fun conversations have started when I wear this shirt too (people love race day and event shirts)!

Merrell Champex Compression Capri

Compression capris and pants are my favorite for running and training in. They offer compression without being too tight and has the perfect amount of stretch to let you run, jump, crawl, lift to your hearts content. Made with a quick drying and wicking material (polyester and elastane), they are perfect for running Tough Mudder. These are definitely going to be my race day wear. I’m opting for capris over shorts to help give my knees a bit more protection from the tough terrain.

Headband

A must to keep this crazy mane somewhat contained during the run, to keep sweat and water out of my eyes and especially for the after party. I love the ones that I have from Sparkly Soul. They are the best and last forever!

Designer Protein

Hands down my favorite protein powder! I’m super picky when it comes to protein powder and this is one of the few brands that I truly absolutely love. Designer Protein powder not only taste great, but contains 20 grams of non-GMO whey protein isolate, a barrage of minerals and peptides to aid in recovery, plus B vitamins to help convert protein to energy and increase metabolism. I’m loving the Gourmet Chocolate flavor the best, but French Vanilla and Summer Strawberry follow up pretty closely. I’ve been drinking a shake after each run, lift or yoga session to help my muscles recover and refuel. It’s great to mix in with yogurt or oatmeal for an extra protein punch too! Save 20% on your order at Designer Protein with code: MGH20 through June 10th.

Water Bottle

This water bottle from Twinkle Twinkle Lil Jar has been my sidekick lately! I love the positive message and the large size (32 ounce) so I’m not having to refill it all the time.

Coola Sunscreen

This sunscreen is the best! I randomly stumbled upon this brand and it is actually the first spray sunscreen I’ve used, but it goes on so well, stands up to water and sweat and smells amazing. I love that it’s easy to apply on yourself so you don’t have any telltale, fiery missed marks.

Recovery

Kneipp Intensive Cream Joint & Muscle

I’ve been loving on this cream lately (my wrist have been feeling a little sore from yoga and lifting) and I know that it’s going to be a lifesaver after Tough Mudder for my sore muscles. This cream contains ingredients of the arnica blossom and plant oils that when used as a massage can ease discomfort and stiffness. I’ve definitely noticed a difference upon using it and it’s been super moisturizing as well. If you have stiff or sore joints/muscles, definitely give this a try. I hate taking meds so this is a perfect alternative. Kneipp has an awesome giveaway right now for a Let’s Explore Package, featuring: A Shinola Detroit Arrow Bicycle and Kneipp Natural Bath & Body Products. Enter here.

Dr Teals Relax & Relief Epsom Salt

After a long day of running, jumping, crawling through the mud, sun and a little celebration, I plan on going home to soak my muscles in the tub. I love the Relax & Relief epsom salt mix for pampering after an exhausting adventure.
