BOTOX 101: Everything you need to know about Botox

What is Botox & How does it work? 

Botox is a neurotoxins (onabotulinumtoxinA) that paralyzes the underlying facial muscles that cause muscles to contract, which lessens the activity of those muscles. Botox prevents wrinkles and lines from forming or developing further

What Should I Expect At My Appointment?

At your consultation you will talk with their staff about your skin concerns and areas in which you may be interested in using Botox.

CONSULTATION

You'll  be asked to make several different expressions (smile, surprise, scowl) in order to showcase the wrinkles and fine lines that are being addressed.

MARK INJECTION SPOTS

They'll mark spots on the areas to inject based on what muscles they are targeting and your desired results. I usually do crows feet, forehead and glabellar areas.

DO BOTOX INJECTIONS HURT?

The Botox injections are pretty painless. You may feel a slight pressure or pinching sensation, but it’s nothing that is super uncomfortable (and this is coming from someone who isn’t a big fans of needles)

How long does it take to see results?

It can take up to two weeks for you to see the full results. Most see changes within a few days later. On average, after 10 to 14 days you will see the full results.

How Long Does Botox Last?

The effects of Botox typically last around three to four months depending on how your body metabolizes Botox.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX COST?

Currently Botox costs $13 per unit at the med spa that I visit.. The number of units that you will need will depend on the areas that you are having treated. Finding a highly trained injector is incredibly important!
