Best Hikes in Hocking Hills for Families with Kids

Hocking Hills in Ohio is a great place for families to visit! The area is well known for its natural beauty with forest, caves, waterfalls and hundreds of miles of hiking trails.

Depending on your kiddos abilities and age, there are many different levels and lengths of trails in the area.

Note: There are often rim and gorge trails. The rim travels can be dangerous as they often have no barriers. With children, I opt for the safer gorge trails.

Read on to learn more about the wonderful trails & locations in Hocking Hills that are family-friendly.

Curved Arrow

Ash Cave

Ash Cave is the largest recess cave not just within the park, but in the entire state. It's a short (.3 mile) paved path to the cave which makes this perfect for young children.

Conkles Hollow

This nature preserve has two option: upper & lower trails. The lower trail is a safer option with kids and has spectacular views that and in a truly magical hollow with a waterfall.

Rock House

The Rock House is unique as it is a tunnel-like 200 foot sandstone cave. The hike to the cave is relatively easy (1/2 mile) and the caverns are so fun to explore.

Old Man's Cave

The trail to Old Man's Cave is about 1 mile long (terrain is a bit more advanced) with waterfalls along the way and leads to one of the most popular sites.

Cedar Falls

This one mile hike is easy and leads to a pretty waterfall with a shallow stone basin that kids love to splash in!

Cantwell Cliffs

Known for its deep valleys, high cliffs & rock shelter, this park area includes vast hiking trails. More advanced than other trails so save for older kiddos or experienced hikers.

Fat Women's Squeeze

It's part of Cantwell Cliffs & advanced, but great for older or experienced kids. Enjoy massive monoliths and a tight hike through the cliffs. Lots of stairs!
