Get Moving With Yoga For Kids: Nature Themed Poses

Summertime means non-stop play for my kiddos. I feel like we are always on the move and looking for fun and new activities. My children have grown up watching me go to yoga classes and over the last year, their interest in yoga has grown immensely. I absolutely love seeing their world open up to yoga and I encourage their journey into yoga wholeheartedly.

Yoga has so many awesome benefits for kids! Yoga is a great way to add physical activity to your child’s routine as well as all of these amazing benefits:

  • Increase coordination and balance
  • Physical flexibility
  • Have creative fun
  • Improve mindfulness
  • Stress relief with breathing, meditation and healthy physical activity
  • Build concentrations skills
  • Boost self-esteem
  • Non-competitive

Most days we spend our whole afternoon outdoors. We jump from one activity to another (biking, hiking, playing t-ball, swing set, gardening, yoga, etc.) until finally we’re all ready for a little snack break. Lately, our favorite midday power snack has been TruMoo Chocolate Milk to power us through the rest of our day.

TruMoo is the perfect drink to help active kids continue to have fun, all day long. Loaded with the perfect combination of proteins, calcium and vitamins while also hydrating (so important on these hot summer days), it’s a win-win for everyone. I absolutely love that there is no high fructose corn syrup and no GMO ingredients, while my kids absolutely love the yummy real cocoa flavor. Tru taste, Tru nutrition and Tru fun!

Since we’ve been spending the majority of our days outdoors exploring the nature that surrounds us, I wanted to put together a fun activity focusing on nature inspired yoga poses. Below are some of our favorite poses to do that are nature-inspired!

Nature Inspired Yoga Poses:

Tree Pose (Vrikshasana)

Focus on a single point straight ahead of you to help keep your balance.

Butterfly (Baddham Konasana)

Flutter your legs like butterfly wings. You can lift your arms just like antennas.

Frog (Malasana)

Great pose when kids are feeling restless to help them relax and become more grounded.

Sun (Sun Salutation: Surya Namaskar)

Raise your arms to the sky like rays of the sun.

Snake (Cobra: Bhujangasana)

Lie on belly, press your legs and pelvis down and slowly raise your upper body. Hiss!

Beetle (Happy Baby:Ananda Balasana)

Roll around on your back like a beetle stuck on his back.

Turtle (Child’s Pose: Bālāsana)

Carefully peek that head up and hide it away like a turtle.

Cat/Cow (Chakravakasana)

Alternate between rounding out your back like a cat and lowering belly to the floor like a cow. Kids love to “meow” and “moo” through this pose.

Dog/Coyote (Downward Dog: Adho Mukha Svanasana)

You can play in this pose by shaking your bottom just like a dog wagging it’s tail (or lift a leg and pee).

Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

Stand tall and strong like a mountain.

After the end of your fun mommy and me nature inspired yoga session, cheers with TruMoo Chocolate Milk!

TruMoo has 8 essential nutrients that kids need for critical development stages and is a great source of high-quality protein, which is perfect for re-energizing after your outdoor and summer adventures.

You can find TruMoo Chocolate Milk at most large retailers in a variety of ready to serve sizes (I love the single serve containers for on the go)! Stay moo-ving with TruMoo! 😉

What’s your favorite to be active as a family? Do your kids do yoga?
