It’s hard to believe that fall is here!
We’ve traded in our bathing suits for hoodies, started pulling out all the fall decor and I’ve been saving soup and comfort food recipes that I can’t wait to try. One of the other things that I always do this time of year is begin preparing for cold and flu season so that we aren’t caught off guard when or if someone becomes ill. I like to put together a flu kit at the start of the fall season so that we have everything we need to get back to feeling better quickly and to stop the spread throughout our home. I like to take a “prepare for the worst and hope for the best” approach!
One of the main steps that I take to avoid illness this time of year is get my flu shot. Getting a flu vaccine is such a simple preventative step to take to avoid getting the flu. Aside from not getting the flu (or at least being significantly less likely to get a severe case), getting a flu shot is an easy way to help slow the spread of flu within your family and community as well. The moment that someone becomes ill in our home, I know it’s only a matter of time before we all fall ill with it – it’s like a domino effect of illness as we all become sick one by one. Being sick is the worst, especially as a mom, so I do my best to avoid getting sick in the first place and getting a flu shot is one of the easiest steps to do so. A few years back we all got the flu and it was horrible. I felt so terrible for my kids and it took a month for it to completely cycle through everyone in our family. It was rough and from then on, I’ve made sure to get our flu shot every year.
Sam’s Club makes getting your flu shot super quick, easy, and convenient. You can schedule your flu shot easily online through Sams Club’s website (samsclub.com/pharmacy ) or simply stop by the pharmacy while shopping as most offer walk-ins as well. Anyone can get a flu shot (some states are able to give pediatric shots too – check with your pharmacist for details). I love being able to get my shopping and flu shot done at one time to make my life easier and it saves me time!
I signed up that morning with the online scheduling tool (so simple to use) and arrived a few hours later on my weekly shopping trip to get my flu vaccine. The pharmacist was super knowledgeable and helpful to address any questions that I had and with my insurance there was a $0 copay. After I got my shot, I made sure to pick up all of our families cold, cough and flu seasonal needs so we’re prepared for any virus that comes our way.

It gives me comfort to know that I’ve protected myself and my family by getting my flu shot while also helping to reduce potential community spread. With our hospitals being stretched so thin the past year, it’s important that we do what we can to avoid getting ill and to take some stress off of our healthcare systems too. I don’t typically get a flu shot, but after the last two years that we’ve had, I’m ready to go and get one asap!
A ssick kit if a great idea! I always get my flu shot and then have a run down day the next day. So I should definitely combine the shot with some shopping for essentials!
Yup, the flu shot is important. I will have to be sure to get mine. And I need to pick up some essentials!
Covid has definitely made Lysol wipes a regular thing in our house! They’re not going anywhere anytime soon that’s for sure.
I don’t typically get flu shots but with covid, its time to get serious about it. Definitively keeping the home supplies on hand and in-stock in the house. Great tips and list!
